Bo Forms

Basic form #1 - Overhead Strike
- Yoi - formal stance
- Overhead kamae/block 
- overhead strike right (right leading hand) - step into right front
stance, left hand at armpit
- yori-ashi backwards, right inside-outside block
- step back into yoi

Basic form #2 - Thrust
- Yoi - formal stance
- Overhead kamae/block 
- overhead strike right (right leading hand) - step into right front
stance
- forward thrust strike (right leading hand) , left hand at armpit
- yori-ashi backwards, right inside-outside block
- step back into yoi

Basic form #3 - Temple strikes
- Yoi - formal stance
- kamae with left hand forward, bo at right shoulder - step into right
front stance
- strike right to left (right hand forward), retraction hand at armpit
- windmill bo around to strike left to right (right hand forward)
- kamae with left hand forward, bo at right shoulder - still in right
front stance
- strike right to left (right hand forward)
- yori-ashi backwards, right inside-outside block
- step back into yoi

Basic form #4 - Collarbone strikes
- Yoi - formal stance
- Overhead kamae/block 
- overhead strike right (right leading hand) - step into right front
stance
- while stepping with left foot, reverse hands on bo, bringing left hand
at top, bring bo back on top of left shoulder, strike down to opponent's
collarbone, keep arms extended while switching hands
- repeat for right side
- yori-ashi backwards, right inside-outside block
- step back into yoi

Basic form #5 - "Kayaking"
- Yoi - formal stance
- Overhead kamae/block 
- overhead strike right (right leading hand) - step into right front
stance
- reverse right hand grip
- step in left front stance, left collarbone strike, chamber at hip
- step back right front stance, right collarbone strike, chamber at hip
- yori-ashi backwards, right inside-outside block
- step back into yoi

Basic form #6 - "Flinging sand"
- Yoi - formal stance
- Overhead kamae/block 
- overhead strike right (right leading hand) - step into right front
stance
- while stepping with left foot, reverse hands on bo, bringing left hand
at top, bring left bo down to left ankle, as if scooping sand and continue 
up to temple level in front, chamber at hip
- repeat for right side, stepping back
- yori-ashi backwards, right inside-outside block
- step back into yoi

Basic form #7 - Knee strike
- Yoi - formal stance
- kamae with left hand forward, bo at right shoulder - step into right
front stance
- strike right to left (right hand forward), retraction hand at armpit
- windmill bo around to strike left to right (right hand forward)
- kamae with left hand forward, bo at right shoulder - still in right
front stance
- strike right to left (right hand forward) to knee height
- yori-ashi backwards, right inside-outside block
- step back into yoi

Basic form #8 - Baseball
- Yoi - formal stance
- kamae with left hand forward, bo at right shoulder - step into right
front stance
- strike right to left (right hand forward), retraction hand at armpit
- windmill bo around to strike left to right (right hand forward)
- kamae with left hand forward, right arm cocked back like a pitcher - still in right
front stance, reach with left arm straight to the end of the bo
- strike right to left (right hand forward) to knee height, both hands
winding up a fifth from the end of the bo
- bounce the bo immediately back into a right inside-outside block position, hands
at thirds on the bo
- yori-ashi backwards, right inside-outside block
- step back into yoi

Basic form #9 - "Wrist wrecker"
- Yoi - formal stance
- Overhead kamae/block 
- overhead strike right (right leading hand) - step into right front
stance
- Strike left to right with left leading hand away from the body, as in a 
hook punch, with right hand reaching back to the end of the bo and behind
the body
- rotate the bo with the right hand passing close to the right knee and striking
upward.  The left hand stays on the bo, coming back slightly to the right
shoulder, with the wrist rotating awkwardly until palm faces upward
- rotate the bo back the way it was, continuing through to overhead kamae and then
overhead strike
- yori-ashi backwards, right inside-outside block
- step back into yoi

Basic form #10 - Reversing the spear
- Yoi - formal stance
- kamae with left hand forward, bo at right shoulder - step into right
front stance
- strike right to left (right hand forward), retraction hand at armpit
- windmill bo around to strike left to right (right hand forward) to opponent's
temple
- bring leading edge of bo back to left knee while keeping hips to the front.
Twirl bo with the low point at knee rising at back to head and through to face
front while reversing hands. Spear strike to the front
- yori-ashi backwards, right inside-outside block
- step back into yoi

Basic form #12 - Mini kata
- Yoi - formal stance
- kamae with left hand forward, bo at right shoulder - step into right
front stance
- strike right to left (right hand forward), retraction hand at armpit
- windmill bo around to strike left to right (right hand forward) to opponent's
knee
- step back with right foot, "kayak" strike with left leading hand
- step up with right foot to feet together, then back with the left foot to turn
facing 90 degrees to the left.  Strike right to left
- step left foot to the left and forward to get ready for a right front stance
facing front.  Before turning extend arms out with bo nearly vertical to the left
side, then swing bo and hips around to the right to face forward, with the bo nearly
vertical and to the front
- overhead strike
- spear forward
- yori-ashi backwards, right inside-outside block
- step back into yoi
