This classical martial art emphasizes the development of good character and respect through the diligent practice of techniques based on sound fundamental body mechanics. As in all true art-forms, traditional karate training stresses the building of a solid, basic foundation before moving on to advanced techniques. Our unique program offers overall body conditioning, improved flexibility, practical self-defense, and the development of self confidence. Classes at North City Athletics are instructed by Sensei Mark Tarrant, 6th Degree black belt in the prestigious Japan Karate Association. Mr. Tarrant is a protege of Master Yutaka Yaguchi, 9th Degree Chief Instructor of the ISKF of Colorado and a member of the elite class of first-generation JKA instructors sent worldwide to teach real Shotokan Karate. A world-class competitor, Mr. Tarrant's career highlights include being two-time individual US National Champion and a member of seven national champion teams. Mr. Tarrant has also competed internationally as a member of the US Team for ten consecutive years placing in both individual and team events. Still actively training and coaching, Sensei Tarrant now teaches at North City Athletics, a branch of the ISKF of Colorado, the headquarters of the Mountain States Region of the International Shotokan Karate Federation.
